A woman in North Carolina appeared to be cooking alongside her young son when, all of a sudden, the microwave exploded, startling the little guy and making the mother scream. Turns out, she had attempted to boil eggs inside the appliance, which is pretty much asking for trouble of the volatile type.
The mother, Kristen, also known as kpwizzle, shared the scary moment on TikTok. She is a teacher who usually shares content alongside her family, and as of late, she has been posting cooking content alongside her young son. The clip attached above became her biggest one ever, garnering 7.9 million views, 946,300 likes, and more than 11,000 comments.
The North Carolina woman was cooking with her son, apparently a mix of sausage, shrimp, and crab meat. She was talking about saving some fresh corn when, unbeknownst to her, a lot of steam was accumulating inside the microwave in the background. This only added more pressure to what was essentially a time bomb.
Microwave Explosion
Eventually, the inevitable occurred. The microwave exploded. Its door, wide open, closed back up, thanks to the force of the blast. Steam engulfed the entire kitchen, and water, probably boiling, poured like acid rain, reaching the boy’s clothes.
Upset, the boy got startled real rough. While crying, he told Kristen, “I didn’t like it.“
Meanwhile, the North Carolina mother called for Grant, her husband, asking him to come over to the kitchen with insistence. As the boy pouted, his father eventually arrived, asking, “What happened?” Kristen explained that the microwave had exploded, and Grant immediately asked what was in it.
“Eggs,” Kristen said, and the clip ended.
As the clip showed, boiling eggs in a microwave is not the smartest idea in the world, but rather a very dangerous one. Landers Appliance explained it well, detailing that hard-boiled eggs will explode as the moisture stored inside them will turn into steam that has nowhere to go inside the shell.
Reactions
The video sparked multiple responses, mostly from people who were very well aware of the risks of boiling eggs in a microwave. One said, “The sense of a wet noodle and the reflex of a sloth. Jesus.” Another one commented, “So lazy that we are microwaving eggs now?“
Others took issue with how Kristen called for her husband. One wrote, “She yelled at her husband like it’s his fault.” Finally, some even commented on how the boy reacted to the sudden blast, with one saying, “Oooh, he was shaking like a leaf noooo.”
It is safe to say that boiling eggs in a microwave is far from safe. You can still cook them scrambled, though.
