There are a few things renowned for having long memories.  Elephants and the internet are but a few examples. According to Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, Middle-earth: Shadow of War can now be placed on that list. The game will have the “Campaign That Never Forgets” meaning that your decisions will help or haunt you long after you have made them.

The “Campaign That Never Forgets” is introduced in a new live-action trailer for Shadow of War. The spot was directed Neil Huxley, best known for his work on Watchmen and Avatar. Director of Photography credit for the trailer goes to Fabian Wagner who cut his teeth on Game of Thrones. The trailer offers gamers an insight into how decisions can have a butterfly effect of sorts for the story. In this example, Talion is given a choice during the siege of Mordor.  He can either save an Orc follower or kill a nemesis. The outcome of the decision may create a ripple that reverberates throughout the gameplay world.

According to a press release by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment:

Those decisions then result in a personal relationship with a specific Orc as a loyal ally or vengeful enemy, which will extend beyond the interactive trailer and follow viewers across the internet, emulating the gameplay experience created by the Nemesis System. Players now have entirely new ways to journey through the dynamic world, with more choices and opportunities than ever before due to the addition of Orc Followers. Whether spared, scarred, recruited or marked, every encounter will be remembered and help fuel the dynamics of society and conflict within Mordor, all brought to life through the expanded Nemesis System.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War releases October 10, 2017, and will be available on Xbox One, Windows 10, and PlayStation 4.
