As the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents continue their winter immigration raids in Minnesota, it appears they’ve encountered a new challenge: ice itself. At least such was the case for one ICE agent who went wildly viral online over the weekend because he slipped and fell on black ice while chasing someone during the raid.
The incident took place around January 12 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The video shows a lone ICE agent apparently running towards protestors with many spectators present. The ICE agent, however, ran on the ice-covered part of the road or “black ice,” where he slipped and fell on his butt, much to the apparent joy of the bystanders who laughed and cheered at his misfortune.
It appears the ICE agent also retreated after the slip, though it’s not clear whether it’s due to embarrassment or something else. The jokes have quickly poured in after the incident, with photos and videos of the ICE agent’s slippage accumulating millions of views and upvotes on sites like Reddit and X. One commenter even joked, “Black ice has now been added to the domestic terrorist list,” while another quips, “Even ice hates ICE.”
Apparently, the video above is not the only incident where an ICE agent slipped on black ice; one viewer even stated that, “I’ve seen at least 3 or 4 agents wipe out in several videos now. Someone needs to make a Benny Hill montage.” The comment has since led to speculation that some of the ICE agents are not state natives in Minnesota and might have been from states where snow is rare, such as Texas.
ICE Being Taken Out by Ice is Now a Compilation
As it turns out, several ICE agents have indeed been defeated by the Minnesota black ice, and their failures have become the subject of ridicule online. It appears some of the ICE agents are not used to winter, or that perhaps they’re not properly geared for the job, leading to certain commenters being creative about their mockery, “The Icestapo are learning the hard way that the road to fascism is a slippery slope indeed…”
Others have chalked up the slip to how some ICE agents or ICE recruits are unathletic. Last year, another video of ICE agents’ shortcomings also went viral after they failed to catch a Chicago man on a bicycle. Meanwhile, last year’s reports also point to how a third of the ICE recruits failed training, specifically the personal fitness test. It’s not clear whether those who failed the fitness test went on to join the Minnesota raid, though it appears that possibility is not remote.
