Threatening someone to scare them into submission might feel good in the moment for the bully, but they forget: We don’t live in the uncivilized Wild West anymore. Threats, especially violent ones, can come at a grave cost, and one Minnesota neighbor at an apartment learned this the hard way. It all began when a single mom and her daughter moved into the building earlier this month and were assigned a parking spot. There might have been a misunderstanding because one tenant had already been parking there. But when the mom took their spot one night, they took things a little too seriously.
When the Minnesota mother came out the next morning, her neighbor in the apartment had taped quite a disturbing message on her car. It read, “Park in my space again, and I’m going to slash your tires. Got your info.” The single mother wasn’t going to take this threat sitting down. “I am a single woman with a daughter who ran from a domestic situation. I take our safety incredibly seriously,” she remarked on a r/Apartmentliving post. Without hesitation, she emailed the apartment’s management and even filed a police report.
Those in charge of the apartment were quick to act, terminating the entitled neighbor’s lease immediately. The parking area had cameras, so it wasn’t too hard to identify which tenant wrote the note. “This spot was NEVER signed out to anyone else so this person is clearly unhinged for something that isn’t even theirs,” the mom wrote in her post. Unfortunately, the police couldn’t do anything about the neighbor since they did no actual damage to the car, nor did they threaten the mother’s physical safety. Still, “There was never a need for this aggressive of a note. Now they’re homeless,” remarks the mom.
“The person is not good at committing crimes,” laughed a commenter. “The safety of you and your daughter is paramount,” empathized another. “I’m so frustrated for you that you get out of one situation and find yourself dealing with an unhinged neighbor over a parking space.” Hundreds of others praised the mom for doing the right thing and going straight to the landlord and police about the dangerous neighbor.
The Neighbor Might Have Had Their Car Towed, Which Set Them Off
For extra context, however, the mom might have gotten the person’s car towed after she initially moved there. Earlier in her story, she said that from Day 1 at her new apartment, the renter had already stolen her parking spot, despite management assigning it to her. The mother contacted the office, which said the car would be towed if the owner didn’t move it.
Eventually, the spot was cleared, so the mom parked there, resulting in the ominous note the next morning. Tow fees can cost over $200, according to the City of Minneapolis government website, so it’s understandable why the neighbor might have been upset. Still, it was no justification for making violent threats.
