In a sharp escalation of her long-standing opposition to the administration’s foreign policy, Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota issued a scathing condemnation of President Trump on Saturday, labeling the recent military strikes against Iran as an “illegal and unjustified war.”

The statement comes in the wake of a massive U.S.-Israeli aerial campaign that reportedly killed several high-ranking Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Omar, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, emphasized that the operation was launched without congressional approval and isn’t exactly legal.

Statement from Rep. Ilhan Omar on Trump’s Illegal War on Iran:

“President Trump is unilaterally dragging this nation into a conflict the American people do not want,” Omar said in a press release. Highlighting her own background as a survivor of war, she added, “Military strikes will not make us safer; they will inflame tensions and push the region further into chaos. When we abandon diplomacy, we choose destruction.”

Public reaction to the congresswoman’s stance has been divided, mirroring the atmosphere in Washington following a heated exchange at the State of the Union earlier last week. On X, Minnesota Conservatives and Republicans laid into her and stood in opposition to her beliefs.

“We already know whose side you’re on and it’s not Americas.”

“TRUTH! THESE ARE ENEMIES OF THE USA! REMOVE THEM!”

Despite vocal opposition from progressives like Omar and Governor Walz, the Trump administration has shown no intention of de-escalating. In a video statement from Mar-a-Lago, President Trump insisted that the operations dubbed Operation Epic Fury would continue until all objectives are achieved. He dismissed congressional critics, stating that decisions would be made based on “national security needs, not the complaints of the ‘America-second’ crowd.“

The escalating conflict has already seen its first U.S. casualties, with the Pentagon confirming the deaths of three service members. This development has only intensified Omar’s calls for the immediate passage of a War Powers Resolution to reassert Congress’s constitutional authority over military engagements.
