Widespread federal immigration operations have been taking place across Minnesota for several weeks now. The fear that ICE spreads is like nothing seen before. Families are choosing to shelter in place, keep children home from schools, and avoid leaving their homes without necessary documentation. Still, people are being detained every single day. One Minnesota father was taken from his vehicle and detained while he was doing something so many of us do every day: picking up breakfast.
Will (@willgarrison077) shared a TikTok video showing what happened when a single father of two was stopped by ICE in Minnesota. Apparently, he was picking up breakfast at a Mexican grill when they blocked him in. He refused to get out of his vehicle, so an ICE agent broke through the class with a crowbar. Then, the agents tore him out of his vehicle and threw him onto the ground to detain him.
Will, while recording, says to one of the agents holding open the man’s car door, “No judicial warrant, no judicial warrant.” But ICE doesn’t care which laws it breaks when conducting its operations. They clearly believe they’re above the law. Will then says to the agent, “If you were helping the community, then you wouldn’t be hiding your faces.” This obviously strikes a chord in the agent, who looks angrily at him as he holds up a hand for him to back off. Will fights back and forth with the agents for some time, who eventually leave with the detained father in tow.
As Will says, the man who was detained is a single father of two. Will says, “No one will be picking up his kids from school this afternoon.” Just imagine being those children and finding out that your father was taken by ICE. It’s a horrific reality that so many families are facing in Minnesota and across the entire United States right now.
One commenter mentioned, “They are taking people from work, from schools, from churches. How does that equate to dangerous criminals???? They are focused on anyone black and brown. They are turning to protestors and pointing guns at unarmed civilians. ICE is a terrorist organization.” Another stated,“This is not the America I signed up for.” I don’t think any of us did when we went out to vote.
