A new video has surfaced of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old Minnesota ICU nurse who was shot by federal agents on January 24th. The footage, taken 11 days before Pretti’s death, shows a confrontation between him and ICE agents.
In the video, Pretti, identified by his family, is seen kicking the back of an unmarked SUV. When he kicks the SUV a second time, the force breaks the taillight. At this point, federal agents can be seen exiting the vehicle and apprehending Pretti. Agents let him go shortly after, and the confrontation ended as they drove away.
Opinions on the altercation have been circulating on social media, and some have shifted in light of this new footage. While some say this changes the details surrounding Pretti’s involvement in Border Patrol’s actions, Minnesotans are holding fast to their views. On Reddit, many defend Pretti, claiming a broken taillight changes nothing in the face of what ICE and border patrol are doing to their neighbors.
Minnesotans Deny Allegations
“Certainly makes it worse if they target him weeks later for a broken headlight,” shares a Redditor. In the same thread asking for opinions from locals, someone says, “Alex out there doing what we all want to be doing. Especially now that the courts have ruled this is an illegal and unconstitutional political paramilitary force. They targeted and assassinated him.”
Many landed on the side of the footage, looking worse for the federal agents. As comments rolled in, accusations also began flying. “The Government should be really careful with this angle… makes his killing look like targeted revenge,” one user says. “I don’t see any actual damage done by Pretti. None. I DO see an assault by ICE officers, however,” one added.
Among hostile remarks about Pretti’s actions, Minnesota remains strong in its feelings toward ICE. If nothing else, one of the thread’s most-upvoted comments serves as evidence. “Be brave like Alex. His name will live forever in the fight against tyranny.”
