During the government shutdown, Americans showed their true colors by coming together to feed families in need. They continue to do so, opening their hearts and homes to those who are less fortunate. One Illinois mother tried to make a difference by opening up a free pantry so families could take food home. Unfortunately, a miserable, unhelpful Karen got involved and tried to put an end to people simply trying to survive and feed their children.
Posted by TikToker Anti-social Traveler (AST), she recounts a recent run-in her daughter had with a Karen asking her what she was doing and what the pantry was for. AST did this with the idea of helping people feed their families. That wasn’t good enough, though. The Karen then claimed they’re from the “inspection zoning board,” and AST needs to cease her operation. It’s on AST’s property, mind you. The Karen then handed over a business card for AST to contact her.
After “playing phone tag” with the supposed zoning board rep, AST reached the snooping Karen. First, AST was questioned about her little free pantry, which was “not allowed” in their village. She was told it needed to be taken down, to which AST said “[expletive] no. I’m not taking it down,” and that she could speak to her lawyer instead.
This came after apparent complaints from neighbors who didn’t like the idea of a pantry in their neighborhood. Or in other words, pure evil. What else do you call people wanting others to starve? As AST put it, “Can you imagine complaining about somebody trying to help other people?”
Now, this TikToker says she’s standing by her little free pantry, though it may lead to fines and board meetings. According to Anti-social Traveler: “If I start getting fined, I will 100% be FOIAing this,” in response to someone suggesting a public records request.
It sounds like she’s prepared to do what it takes to continue helping others. In the comments, AST even challenges the Karen, stating she’ll contact local news if they threaten to fine her.
“Again… Look at where our country is right now?! The PRESIDENT fought against feeding his own people?!!!” one commenter pointed out, referring to Trump’s refusal of SNAP’s emergency funds.
“They’re probably afraid of the people needing these services driving through your ‘village.’ Nothing like Christian love!” another argued, claiming it’s racism. Considering the level of homophobia, transphobia, and racism MAGA sling around every second of the day, it’s hard to think of a better explanation.
