A new announcement by Activision shows how Modern Warfare 3 Campaign mode lets players have a choice in operations. MW3 Campaign directly follows the MW2 2022, and it’ll even feature a Zombies mode for the first time in a Modern Warfare game! However, the MW narrative that started in 2019 is going to have Open Combat Missions in MW3 now, a new feature for players who want to complete objectives with different tactics.
What Are Open Combat Missions in Modern Warfare 3 Campaign?
(Updated on October 11, 2024 – updated links and format)
Open Combat Missions in Modern Warfare 3 are the unique operations within the Campaign in which the players can complete the objectives by various methods. This is a new feature that adds variety to the story mode. And most importantly, it triggers the sense of replayability to the MW3 Campaign to explore new ways of completing a certain mission.
There are no extra details on how exactly the Open Combat Missions are pulled off in MW3. But it sounds different from the Campaign of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. In BO2, players’ choices changed the fate of certain characters, and it even featured different endings and cutscenes. However, for MW3, it’s only called the Open Combat, which emphasizes how you run the operation to reach an objective. For example, you can open a locked door with C4 to rush through or choose a more stealthy tactic.

Now it’s good to see if completing missions in different methods gives players unique rewards. It can be a PlayStation trophy that you achieve by killing a commander in a certain mission, or a weapon skin that you unlock. Whatever the case, we need to wait for more detailed announcements by Activision in this regard. So take all the suggestions here with a grain of salt, and stay frosty!
