Zero Sievert is the Boba Fett to Escape from Tarkov‘s Jango: tiny, adorable, and lethal. It’s a hardcore extraction shooter with top-down pixel graphics, and today it got its official PC release. While cooking in early access, Zero Sievert expanded to become one of the grittiest games in its genre. It combines Tarkov‘s brutal gunplay and gun customization with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.‘s wasteland of irradiated mutants. The result is raw, brutal, and endlessly fun.
Zero Sievert 1.0 Is Finally Here
Loot, kill, extract, repeat. That’s the goal. You’re not supposed to get eaten by a wolf, shot by a rogue soldier, or melted by a fire geyser, but it’s going to happen, time and again. What made Zero Sievert compelling as it grew through early access was the gradual expansion of its core mechanics. The firefights are brutal but fair, and the gunsmithing is some of the best I’ve seen. Every trip into the wild to scavenge is another shot at riches or death. Every extraction is a chance to trade, mod weapons, and rest. As Phil Elliott, CEO at Modern Wolf (Sievert‘s publisher) said in today’s press release,
It’s phenomenal to see the passion and dedication put into the game over the past two years. Finally, 1.0 is here and we can’t wait for players to get stuck in.”
While it’s no surprise to see this sentiment from the game’s publisher, it seems justified. Zero Sievert has seen a gradual (and welcome) growth of scope and complexity throughout early access. The steady drip of new skills, weapons, and bosses has left the game in a great place for its 1.0 release. Find a trusty rifle and get ready to board the train to Zakov City: the mutants of Zero Sievert don’t take pity on the careless.
