You’ve seen how these two have wreaked havoc in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, now let’s take a look at how you can obtain yourself a Gold Rathian as a Monstie in Monster Hunter Stories 2.
Monster Hunter Stories 2 – How To Get Gold Rathian
1. From the ★9 (Slay) Gold Rathian Co-Op Quest
You can get Gold Rathian by doing the “★9 (Slay) Gold Rathian” Co-Op Quest from the Quest Board. Grab a friend or one of the Battle Buddies if you don’t want to face the quest with a randomized AI partner. There you have to slay a Gold Rathian to finish the quest. In the den, you can find its eggs as well.
2. Do the ★9 (Explore) Rare/Subspecies Den Co-Op Quest
As its name suggests, you will be able to find Rare and Subspecies of Monsties more easily through this particular Co-Op Quest. Both Gold Rathian and Silver Rathalos eggs will spawn here as well as other Rare or Subspecies such as Molten Tigrex, Lucent Nargacuga, Stygian Zinogre, Red Khezu, and others.
3. Find the Eggs in Rare Dens
Several Reddit users have said that you can find Gold Rathian in Rare Dens in Alcala Highlands/Alcala Valley areas including Lofty Trees. Apparently, you can get one from any kind of Rare Dens, but platinum-colored dens should give a higher percentage for Silver Rathalos egg to spawn.
Gold Rathian itself is a Speed-type monster that is weak against Thunder element attacks, and these are the best weapon types you can use to break each body part of the gleaming sky empress:
- Head: Slash
- Stomach: Pierce
- Tail: Slash

Once you beat it, you will get the materials to let you craft the Golden Lune Armor+, containing Health Boost (XL), Inflict Rate Up (L), and Heroics (L). If you need more materials, the “★8 Full Golden Moon” Subquest is available as well. Meanwhile, as a Monstie, Gold Rathian has unique skills called:
- Venom Sweep – Piercing Claw Gene (XL), Level 1: Speed type. Deals heavy non-elemental damage to all enemies. Medium chance to inflict Poison for three turns.
- Queen’s Judgement – Rave Gene (XL), Level 15: Speed type. Deals heavy Fire damage to one enemy. Low chance to inflict Burn for three turns.
