Ryan Murphy has aimed high for the casting for the continuation of his Netflix series. Monster season 2 has found the parents and victims of the Menéndez brothers with Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny. The story will follow the true story of Erik (Cooper Koch) and Lyle Menéndez (Nicholas Alexander Chavez), who were convicted in 1996 for killing their parents.

Titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story, similar to the debut season about Jeffrey Dahmer, it will follow the lives of these people and the eventual court proceedings. It is unknown what direction it will take as the police had a different story for the ’89 killings than the brothers. The Menéndez brothers argued that they killed their parents, José (Bardem) and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez (Sevigny), to stop their emotional and physical abuse. Meanwhile, the police were adamant it was for their father’s money.

The series was co-created by Murphy and Ian Brennan. Once again, they executive produce the record-breaking series with Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, David McMillan, Louise Shore, and Carl Franklin. The Dahmer season was a massive hit as it was one of the most-watched English-speaking shows on the streaming service.

Monster season 2 will have to contend with a divisive yet successful first season. Despite viewership and positive reviews, much controversy surrounded the depiction and viewpoint delivered on the Evan Peters-led season. Families of the victims slammed it for making the killer sympathetic and focusing on him. Meanwhile, a Black crew member came out about the hostile and racist work environment.

The two additions each have their own hefty pedigree that they are bringing to the screen for the series. Coming on to Monster season 2, Chloë Sevigny was previously nominated for an Oscar for her role in Boys Don’t Cry. She has also starred in Bones and All, Russian Doll, Queen & Slim, American Horror Story, and Zodiac. Meanwhile, Javier Bardem won an Oscar for No Country for Old Men and was nominated for Being the Ricardos, Before Night Falls, and Biutiful. He has also starred in Skyfall, Mother!, and Dune.

Monster season 2 will premiere on the streaming service later this year.
