Montana Mother Details Why Her Family Might Move to Canada: ‘America is Sick and Broken’

That’s such a bold decision

Because of the current Presidential administration, opinions about the United States have drastically changed for the worse. As a result, there are more and more citizens genuinely thinking about moving to other countries, such as New Zealand and Canada, just to escape the inevitable. One Montana family decided to make the leap and check out Calgary, Alberta, in Canada, but the internet doesn’t seem to agree with them. Now, the mother of the family is sharing their experience and what led them to decide to explore other options in the first place.

The video above was shared on TikTok by @blackhomeeducators, a Black family residing in Montana who post various familial content, including life on their 46-acre ranch and their homeschooling journey. Lately, the content has shifted a bit toward the family’s exploration of other countries to live in. Currently, they are in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and are sharing their journey as they decide if that’s the best option for them. In this particular video, the family matriarch, Pamela Smith, points out that her son has begun taking soccer lessons to see how he feels about them.

Unfortunately, the family’s cross-country journey has not been met with as much kindness as they’d hoped, with various commentators on Smith’s videos proving that they’re decision is likely a good one. In fact, one of the worst comments I saw said, “Funny thing is that sometimes the Trash takes its self out..” One of the very first reasons Smith gives for wanting to leave Montana was specifically because of the racism toward her family.

Fortunately, the above video was met with much more sympathy. Commentators from all across the North American continent came together to applaud the family’s actions to seek other options. One comment in particular said, “they always talkin about “if you don’t like it, leave” but then you leave! AND THEY STILL HURL [expletive] AT YOU!??!??” Another comment was a bit more blunt, simply saying, “America is sick and broken.”

Pamela Smith is also the author of the book Step by Step Guide to Exit the USA – Finding Freedom Abroad. The book details what the title states, with clear guidelines for things such as obtaining visas, housing, schooling, remote work, and more. I’ve already seen the book make its rounds on TikTok, so it seems to me that more and more people are genuinely looking toward following in her footsteps. Hopefully, Smith and her family will soon find a permanent home and continue to share their journey, providing others with insights on how to achieve the same for themselves.
