Before Black Ops 6‘s release, we knew that Treyarch was going to use AI tools for creating 2D art like decals and calling cards in the game, and they have not tried to hide this in the bushes. However, a recent discovery by one of the CoD Zombies content creators is making me feel frustrated about putting AI-generated content in Black Ops 6 and Warzone bundles that we actually pay for with real money.
Call of Duty is in a very unbalanced state right now. Bad Warzone servers, cheaters, and the Zombies community demanding the return of the original voice actors. Pouring extra fuel on this fire is the usage of AI content that enrages some fans every once in a while. First, we had the zombie Santa with 6 fingers, and now it’s like every single 2D art in Black Ops 6 is generated by AI.
Prominent CoD Zombies content creator Glitching Queen has recently posted a video revealing how simple it is to create the loading screens and art in the game with AI tools like Midjourney. It’s a very weird situation, but I think that Treyarch shouldn’t just drop anything generated in their game with a click.
Black Ops 6 “AI Slop” Is Not Cool To Watch And Pay For

Take this image as an example. Not only it takes less than 3 minutes to let AI generate this art, but if you look closely at the dragon’s back, it’s just messed up. What in the Dark Aether is that? a leg and two tails? Terms like “AI Slop” stand for this type of content and it’s really not cool to see the artists copy-paste these without a second look; especially if this art is going to be noticed by fans through Citadelle des Mort‘s main easter egg.

Here’s another very good example of the Black Ops 6 AI-generated content that I’m forced to see after every single match. The Cerberus logo of the Prestige Master looks very niche at first glance, but when you look at the teeth of each head, the AI errors jump out.
What’s The Problem With Black Ops 6 Using 2D AI-Generated Content?

For some fans, the overuse of AI generative content in Black Ops 6 and Warzone is outrageous. AI content is not a well-received present, and I don’t enjoy it either. However, I do agree that this new tool can help, just not the way it’s been utilized in BO6. There are two major issues with Call of Duty‘s AI-generated content:
- Treyarch is using tools like Midjourney to generate 2D art like the loading screens and decals, and it’s safe to assume that they’re just not original. These tools scratch over the art on the internet and assemble a final project without asking for the source’s permission.
- Bundles have price tags, and charging players for an AI-generated content is not cool, not at all.
Overall, when I pay for a bundle with real money in a game like Black Ops 6, I’d like to see some original art created by someone who’s spent time masterfully creating it, not something I can generate by typing a few sentences with an AI tool. That’s what enrages fans the most.
