Morgan Freeman‘s health decline has those close to The Shawshank Redemption star worried he is pushing himself too hard. At 87, the actor now appears frail and lives in excruciating pain. They fear his condition is much worse than he will admit.
Freeman suffers from a chronic condition known as Fibromyalgia. Sadly for Morgan, there is no cure for the debilitating condition. Over the years, his symptoms have continued to worsen, making his day-to-day life more difficult.

Morgan Freeman was first diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 2008 following a near-fatal car crash. The accident caused his left hand to be paralyzed. Since then, the actor has been forced to wear a compression glove to encourage blood flow and manage his “excruciating” nerve pain.
Over the years, according to Radar Online reports, Morgan has openly spoken about his medical condition and the limitations it has placed on his body. Despite the limitations, Freeman has remained busy in the acting industry and is known as one of the hardest-working actors in show business.
Morgan Freeman’s Family Actor To Slow Down
Those close to the actor reveal Morgan is a stubborn and determined man. He doesn’t let anything or anyone get in the way of doing what he loves.
He refuses to let it slow him down, continuing to deliver powerhouse performances. Despite ongoing health struggles, Freeman remains resilient, recently leading an emotional Oscars tribute to his late friend Gene Hackman.
“It’s no secret that he deals with a lot of health issues. His mobility has never been the same, he’s in constant pain, he’s tired and can’t stand for very long,” the insider states.
Morgan Freeman dislikes wearing the special glove, and lately, he has had to use it more often. It is a clear sign that the actor’s health is taking a turn for the worse.
“Certainly, he’s getting the best treatment possible to improve the quality of his life. But, beyond medication and therapies, there is no cure for fibromyalgia,” adds the source.
You wouldn’t know how much Morgan is suffering because of the busy work schedule he insists on keeping. The actor works nonstop. In 2025, Freeman has three upcoming projects, including the heist thriller Now You See Me 3.
Like most people his age, Morgan has his good days and bad days. However, lately, it seems the bad days are outnumbering the good. The actor’s health issues are mounting, and lately, he is said to be not only plagued by chronic pain, but fatigue, insomnia, and memory issues are beginning to take a toll.
His family and friends are glad to see Morgan Freeman staying active with his work at 87. However, at the rate his health is failing him, they believe it is only a matter of time before he will have to throw in the towel.
