It was nearly a month ago that Mortal Kombat 1 was sentenced “dead” for a random leaker that had announced some canceled future content for the game. It was heavily rumored that Mortal Kombat 1 developers had Kombat Pack 3 ideals on top of their desks before its cancellation, and the game was to never receive any major update after. But do you know who’s much more trustworthy than leakers? The game’s director himself.
T-1000 is coming to Mortal Kombat 1 in less than a month, and we’ve got a brand new trailer for the character, starring Madam Bo in the background catching everyone by surprise. Aside from Raiden and Kung Lao’s teacher being in the game, this is something we all knew that’s coming. But, Ed Boon, the co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise has more to say about the future of MK1.
“Here is just a taste of what’s on the way with the T1000, Madam Bo, and Mortal Kombat 1.” Excuse me, just a taste? This piles up pretty well with Master Boon’s post weeks ago about a “future DLC” coming later after the current Kombat Pack 2 character updates. And with all the rumors and character design leaks, it’s quite obvious that we’re getting a Kombat Pack 3 that has Kung Jin and the Kombat Kids in it + Jade. But, what happens to the story?
Mortal Kombat 1 Story DLC 2 Future Content Is Still A Possibility, Or Is It?

So the one thing that still remains true to some percentage is the fact that the NetherRealm Studios has canceled or not even planned a second story DLC for Mortal Kombat 1. No official news, no updates, and no more leaks and rumors in the past month, but if that’s the case, there’s a good reason behind that.
Jumping into the Reddit community posts about MK1‘s story, most of the fans are not happy with the current multiverse direction that the game is heading. This alone is enough for the developers to stop building upon the multi-timeline narrative and think of something that’d end this for a good cause. A big event that clears the multiverse once and keeps only 1 timeline canon. But, that could be too big for a simple story expansion.
Now please take all of these with a handful grain of salt until the official news comes out, but I think that’s why we’re still not receiving any updates for a second story expansion and the developers could be working on the big picture only to reveal it with Mortal Kombat 2 some year later. But hey, I could be all wrong about this and they could just release story DLC 2 with any tale possible, who knows. All there’s to confirm is that MK1 is still going, and we’re getting more content in 2025 with the Elder Gods’ blessing.
