Mortal Kombat fans, it has (nearly) begun! The trailer for the recently announced Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge has just dropped. The animated movie will follow the events of the first tournament. Additionally, the movie has an R-rating so prepare for killer showdowns that fans of the series have come to love! Cue the theme song!
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge comes courtesy of Warner Bros. While they tend to produce many DC Comics adaptations, it looks as if Warner Bros. is ready to step into new territory. The trailer shows many fan-favorite warriors appear in animated format, something that hasn’t been seen since the 90s cartoon Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm. However, this outing seems to be adhering more to the source material, hence its R-rating.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge Cast and Crew
Director Ethan Spaulding (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and scriptwriter Jeremy Adams (Supernatural) come together to deliver Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge. A star-studded cast rounds out the crew, with actors like Joel McHale and Steve Blum voicing characters Johnny Cage and Sub-Zero, respectively. Other warriors include Scorpion (Patrick Seitz), Raiden (David B. Mitchell), Liu Kang (Jordan Rodrigues), Sonya Blade (Jennifer Carpenter), Kano (Robin Atkin Downes), Goro (Kevin Michael Richardson), and Shang Tsung (Artt Butler). No voice actor is listed for Reptile, though he clearly appears in the trailer. Judging from the cast list, all warriors that appeared in the first Mortal Kombat game will be present. Additionally, Kitana (Grey Griffin), Jax (Ike Amadi), and Quan Chi (Darin De Paul) will be in the movie as well.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge will release in Spring 2020 on Blu-Ray and digital. The trailer does not mention a regular DVD release but hopefully, that’s just an oversight.
