Archetypes for days

This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

After hearing Metaphor: ReFantazio would have over 40 archetypes, I couldn’t help but feel excitement and fear. I am excited because I saw some of my favorite JRPG classes in it, which I can’t wait to try. I am also afraid because I know my gamer ADHD won’t let me finish that game ever, or at least not for a long time. But that’s what I love about Atlus. The world might be ending, but I have time to invite all of my Persona 5 friends on a date. And with many classes in Metaphor: ReFantazio coming, I know I’m bound for another hundred-hour adventure I can’t wait to begin.

Metaphor: ReFantazio — AWAKEN | Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC

You read that right. Over 40 archetypes are coming to Metaphor: ReFantazio. Anything you can imagine that could go in a salad bowl of JRPG classes is coming. Ninjas, Fighters, Clerics, etc. Furthermore, according to the studio, certain classes can evolve into advanced ones, bringing back memories to Final Fantasy Tactics fans. And if that wasn’t enough, Atlus is taking many pages from Persona and Shin Megami Tensei’s playbooks—the inheriting of skills when swapping classes, the key skills of every archetype, and much more. So far, it seems like the developers are throwing everything that worked in their previous series into this brand-new IP, which already seems like a recipe for success.

I won’t lie to you: I would’ve loved to see something about Persona 6. However, the more I see about Metaphor: ReFantazio, the more excited I get. The fact that this new IP looks like the combination of everything Atlus has worked on but with its own identity is amazing. How it’ll play and stand up against the other two big franchises is still a mystery. But I’m ready. Hopefully, the weekend-long event will give us more information about this game. And remember, The Nerd Stash is on-site at Summer Game Fest. So, check our site for all the behind-the-scenes coverage from the hottest gaming event of the year.
