MTV has announced the nominees for its Movie & TV Awards for 2023. Top Gun: Maverick leads the film side with six nominations. The Last of Us and Stranger Things are tied with six nominations for TV. Jersey Shore Family Vacation, RuPaul’s Drag Race, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and Vanderpump Rules are tied with two each for unscripted TV.
While the Academy Awards have faced criticism for lack of love toward certain genres, particularly horror, the 2023 MTV Awards nominees show plenty of love for genre film and TV, especially horror. Smile received two nominations, Nope with three, Scream VI with three, Yellowjackets with two, and the previously mentioned The Last of Us and Stranger Things.
Voting for fans is open. The award show will air on May 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles.
