March 30 marked a sad day for fans of the anime rhythm game Muse Dash, as its developers PeroPeroGames have stated they are filing for bankruptcy. Or, at least that’s what they would have you believe for their 2021 April Fools Update live now on Steam. PeroPeroGames posted to Muse Dash News with the following quote:
“To our lovely friends:
Thanks y’all for supporting [Muse Dash] and helping us grow over the years! Due to the extremely modest price point of [Just as Planned], our company has undergone colossal financial losses, making it impossible for us to feed our devs and continue to update [Just as Planned]. We are preparing to file for bankruptcy in the following days.”
They pulled a similar stunt last year, making the game’s newcomer tutorial an absolute nightmare with its difficulty. This year, players who log in to Muse Dash between 30th and April 7 will be met with this bizarre login screen:
And that’s not the end of it. A new character, “Part-time Warrior Rin,” was added to the playable roster. Described as “(having) staggering physics-defying power, Rin is the ultimate personification of the collective creativity of PeroPeroGames.” The ‘high-quality design of the Part-time Warrior really highlights the dev team’s quirky imagination. In a game where your character can have over-dramatic boss battles with a pumpkin car armed with a banana cannon that fires gummies and lollipops large enough to lob a head off, this update more than fits into Muse Dash‘s ‘weirdness.’
The game will be on sale on Steam from March 30 to April 7, with the base game marked down 70% and the DLC 20% off. For zealous anime lovers or fans of the rhythm game genre, Muse Dash offers a great deal of content for an affordable price. In-game songs include works from popular composers from the EDM community like 3R2, Snail House, and Moe Shop. Not to mention, the Just as Planned DLC package comes in a “buy once forever model,” with any future updates or add-ons being completely free of charge. In this genre’s market, where you could be spending up to hundreds of dollars on song packs, Muse Dash‘s bargain is an absolute steal.
