The internet has been CoD fans’ heaven lately, as we have seen more of Black Ops 6 and its Zombies mode in official trailers and leaks. But as we’re consumed in the Black Ops 6 news, let’s talk about another Call of Duty update that’s been shadowing the whole community with the pure joy it’s bringing back for us from 15 years ago. The H2M team has been finalizing a mod for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, seemingly turning its Multiplayer mode into a MW2 Remastered interpretation with all the maps, modes, and weapons. Will Activision step in to shut this down?
Update August 15, 2024: You guessed it, Activision has shut down the H2M mod project.
Applying mods to Call of Duty games is the way to go if you want to take a different direction with your favorite title. From playing The Moon Zombies in World At War to remastering Black Ops 3 maps, a ton of content is out there made by modders and fans for fans. However, Activision never likes it when these mods take things online.
The biggest of which was the S2M mod, where over 100 original and unique Call of Duty maps were supposed to match up with a mixed loadout system from different CoD games. Hell, the game was even supposed to have its own in-game currency! But that is the level where Activision steps in and kicks your warm-heartedly made sand castles. But will Activision send its cease team for the H2M mod? I don’t think so.
The H2M is a mod that is based on the Modern Warfare Remastered engine, injecting a ton of MW2 2009 Multiplayer content in with a remastered polish. Yes, you have to play online, but unlike the S2M where you could download the game for free, you need to pay for the game; not the mod. You must own a copy of Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam to play the MW2 Remastered Multiplayer mod, AKA the H2M.
So why is Activision not bothering to slap the Bravo 6 out of this one? Good question, which has a solid answer: MW Remastered is currently among the best-selling games on Steam! The 7-year-old game sells, and players enjoy going back to their beloved MW2 2009 in great quality.
The one thing that does worry the fans, though, is that the release date for the H2M mod is set for August 16, 2024. This is as close as it could be to the Call of Duty Next event on August 28 and the Black Ops 6 beta early access on August 30. So far, Activision has not addressed the H2M mod, and no index fingers have been pointed towards it.
Black Ops 6 is setting a big stage for the return of the round-based Zombies, which is one of the key selling points of the game. And the overall gameplay with the Omnimovement and different improvements promise a big Call of Duty title this year; so far it’s too good to believe. So when the H2M is a go-to for a week, Black Ops 6 is here for way longer, which should ensure that the MW2 Remastered mod won’t get shut down by Activision.
