The manga’s most recent hiatus was a week delay in December. This was also due to Horokoshi’s declining health. Since the announcement this morning, there has not been an update on his health or details surrounding the break.
My Hero Academia’s Manga Hiatus: Horokoshi’s Continuing Popularity
Horokoshi first launched the My Hero Academia manga in July 2014. It was published in Weekly Shonen Jump, with Viz Media handling serialization in the west (both physical and digital release). Most recently, the manga’s 37th book volume was released and shipped in Japan on Friday. Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service also publishes the manga digitally in English. Since its release, the manga has sold over 65 million physical copies worldwide.
The anime itself first started with 13 episodes on April 2016. It was quickly followed by a second season after the large rush of positivity from viewers. A third, fourth, and fifth seasons were released in 2018, 2019, and 2020 respectively. As of now, there are 7 OVA’s (original video animations) and three movies in the entire franchise. The most recent movie was My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission.
Currently, the anime’s sixth season premiered on October 1st. The season is scheduled to air for two continuous quarters of a year (totaling a half-year) for a total of 25 episodes. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs in Japan, with the English dub following a few days after. Toonami is also airing the anime on its programming block.
All past episodes and OVA’s of My Hero Academia are available to stream on Funimation, Hulu and Crunchyroll.
