The Nancy Guthrie case has spiraled into confusion and public outrage after a delivery driver was mistakenly detained and released, following an unverified report by journalist Ashley Banfield accusing Savannah Guthrie’s brother-in-law of involvement. Social media erupted as users criticized both the media and authorities for mishandling the investigation.
Feds Detain, Then Release Man in Nancy Guthrie Case
Palazeulos spoke with reporters outside his Rio Rico, Arizona home describing the ordeal as “They held me against my will, they didn’t even read me my rights two hours in.” He added, “They told me to stop moving. What the [expletive] am I doing here? I didn’t do anything to be honest, I’m innocent.” Authorities had briefly searched his home, breaking down doors in the process, but released him after determining he was not involved.
The man’s detention came hours after the FBI and local authorities released doorbell camera footage showing a masked figure tampering with Nancy’s security system in the early hours of February 1.
While law enforcement continues to search for suspects, social media users criticized the arrest as a misuse of resources. People also questioned whether law enforcement was really on top of their game in this case, while calling out FBI’s Kash Patel. This comes after Ashley Banfield reported Annie Guthrie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, as a possible suspect.
Social Media Slams Ashley Banfield and FBI Over Misstep
Before Carlos’ arrest, the case got complicated when reporter Ashley Banfield publicly suggested that Annie Guthrie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, might be a person of interest. Her claim was unverified, and authorities quickly shut it down.
Netizens were quick to push back. One wrote, “God why are people so [expletive] gross? It all started with Ashley Banfield spreading that rumor too right? I saw her video where she went on about knowing Savannah blah blah then goes on and says all this suspicious stuff about the sisters husband with no proof or reference”
Others weighed in on Carlos’ release. “Jeez I feel so bad for the Carlos guy… FBI what a waste of resources and a joke”. Another user added, “Damn, it’s been a wild day. I’d love to see how LE justifies detaining this man, kicking down his mother-in-law’s door and searching the house. Exactly what information led them to Carlos?” “FBI and Kash Patel sucks tbh,” voiced an angry commenter.
Meanwhile, some urged calm, highlighting the importance of ongoing investigations. “Lets all take a breath… Nobody is perfect but don’t let the mistakes stop you from trying your best. WE ALL WANT NANCY to be found SAFE.”
The combination of Banfield’s unverified claim and Carlos’ wrongful detention has left the Nancy Guthrie case mired in public scrutiny, with social media users expressing frustration over misdirected attention and potential harm to innocent individuals. Authorities continue to investigate, emphasizing that no suspects have been confirmed.
