National Guard Members Spotted Carrying Firearms Around Washington DC Amidst Crime Crackdown, ‘I Don’t See This Going Well’

Does that really make things safer?

The United States has arguably been at war with itself since the inauguration of President Trump at the beginning of this year. There appear to be new laws and crackdowns in place every day, causing normal people to fear for their lives in a completely new way. Most recently, President Trump took measures to ensure that crime in Washington, DC would cease altogether. However, his particular attack style consists of National Guard members prancing around the place with automatic weapons. You know, for everyone’s safety.

According to President Trump, he doesn’t want to be bombarded by corrupt or terrible politicians when approaching a city about its crime levels. While this doesn’t really make any sense, he uses this reasoning as a justification for cracking down on crime in Washington, DC, where the white house is. While this is great in theory, his fix involves militaristic behaviors that could potentially harm even more than those involved in whatever crime is attempting to be stopped.

Commenters on the Instagram version of the above video seem to agree, with one person specifically saying, “I don’t see this going well. SMH.” Honestly, I don’t see this going very well either, especially because Trump has recently signed various executive orders aimed at ensuring that public order issues are dealt with by the military. I don’t know about you, but I can’t possibly see any public issues ending well if that is set to be the case.

It has been proven time and time again that firearms are not the answer to crime, seeing as criminals also have access to them. So, instead of comparing guns to see whose is the biggest, I believe that President Trump should spend the country’s resources focusing on the real, core issue as to why crime is happening in the first place. Maybe then, we won’t need to worry about solving those issues using military standards.
