‘Native American’ Gets Harassed by Tourist in California Over Sequoia Photo Op, ‘This is My Country!’

That new profile picture is worth fighting for

They say vacations in nature spots tend to heal the soul and soothe the mind, but sadly, that wasn’t the case in a recent incident in the General Sherman Tree in Tulare County, California, that went viral. What could’ve been a simple photo op turned into a shouting match and then a debate about nationality, all because people couldn’t wait their turn.

The incident happened right at the base of the 2,700-year-old General Sherman Tree, which is a popular tourist spot. Often, there’s also a line for the giant tree photo op, but it appears this time someone might have cut into the line, and this led to an altercation between a man who was identified to be Brazilian and a woman who announced herself as a Native American.

In the video, you can hear the woman in full Native American garb saying, “I’m Native American, this is my land! You go stand in line” to the already agitated plus-size man. After this, the man insisted on taking the photo anyway, even trying to drag the Native American woman into his shot. This notably angered the Native American woman’s male companion, who eventually began shouting at the aggressive Brazilian man to “Go back to your country.”

A fight between the Native American woman’s male companion and the Brazilian man almost erupted, with the latter also shoving and laying his hands on the former. Thankfully, it didn’t escalate as the two tourist couples just decided to take their pictures despite sharing the General Sequoia Tree.

People online are scratching their heads over such a petty fight

While many people going on vacations are sometimes tired and hasty, starting a fight and ruining their nature getaway was something that viewers mocked. It’s not clear what exactly led to the disagreement, but online testimonies point fingers towards the Native American woman who allegedly cut in line while it was the Brazilian couple’s turn.

“Brazil was waiting in line with others & Sequoia walks up & breaks the line so Brazil says something,” according to one comment. The Brazilian man’s response, however, was a little too aggressive and violent, though it’s not clear how long he was waiting in line, which might have added to their frustration.

Other people, however, were doubting the authenticity of the “Native American” woman’s claims about her heritage and have accused her as a “larper,” though there’s no evidence proving or disproving her ethnicity at the time of writing. In any case, people who believed her rallied in her support, saying, “I mean it technically is her country 🔥,” especially about that particular spot. In the end, though, people still found it sweet that the two still managed to share, “The way they ended up taking a picture together 🫶🏾 lol.”
