It is normal for insects and other creatures to enter our homes, as we all live on the same planet. Fortunately, there are many ways to prevent unwanted visitors from entering our homes. However, putting up a board instead of fixing a window is not the best way to solve the problem or prevent wasps from continuing to enter, as this Indiana landlord believed. When you need to fix something, do it before the problem gets bigger, and it’s best to call a professional to do it.
Redditor Low-Mistake1573 shared a photo in r/Renters of their bedroom window from the outside, showing a board covering it. The reason is that OP rents a room in a property in Indiana, but the window was not correctly sealed, and they ended up with a room full of wasps. OP explains that the window had been loose for a long time. They chose not to deal with the management company as it didn’t bother them much. Yet, as soon as OP saw the wasps, they called the company to do something about it. This resulted in them blocking the window, which raised concerns among many users.
‘They boarded it up with the wasps INSIDE?! Forget the board, WTF are they doing about the fucking wasps?!‘ said Greenman8907.
According to OP, they sprayed an “unnamed wasp killer,” and the company stated that there was nothing else they could do at the moment. Even so, other Redditors were worried that this window was the only one available in OP’s room and that it could be a fire code violation. In addition, another user explained that wasps do not leave their nest and go to other places, so it is rare for them to enter through windows to build another nest. This same user added that if the wasps were gathering like that, there was possibly a bigger wasp problem. This could be a nest in the ceiling or attic.
Another major problem appeared in an update from OP in the comments. According to this, the company will not remove the board until OP signs a release of liability for any problems that may occur. This issue isn’t just about the window or the wasps; OP has already complained about mold in their room, but the company claims the room is “fine.” Fortunately, OP has evidence of this and how the mold is affecting their asthma. In addition, OP has already said that he will call the relevant authorities to resolve this conflict.
