Netflix has canceled the revival of Mystery Science Theater 3000. This news comes from The Wrap and leaves a hole in the hearts of fans. However, it is unsurprising as the show has its own particular niche. It is unlikely it was pulling in the viewers the platform needed.
So, your favorite bunch of goofballs reacting to bad old movies is gone. Although, that may not be the case forever. Since the creation of Mystery Science Theater 3000 in 1988, the show has found a way to survive. Jumping from network to network, the show now has a total of twelve seasons. Therefore, it may come back from the dead once again in the future.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 Goes to Sleep
The first official announcement of Mystery Science Theater 3000’s cancellation was from host Jonah Ray. Sharing the news through a series of Twitter posts, he said:
“So, Netflix decided to not do another season of MST3K. We are off to Get Down in Lilyhammer while the OA helps us take it One Day At A Time. We will be in group therapy with Tuca & Bertie, Jessica Jones, & Lady Dynamite. The sessions will be run by Gypsy (w/ Naomi Watts.)”
Funny until the end, he continues:
“We don’t know what the future holds for the show, it always seemed to figure out how to survive. From Comedy Central to SyFy. Then kept alive by RIFFTRAX & Cinematic Titanic. whatever happens, I want everybody to know that getting a chance to be on this show was a dream come true. Getting to work with old friends while making new ones was a gift I didn’t take lightly. Collaborating with heroes from my childhood is something I’ll never stop beaming about. So, Thank you Joel & especially all the MSTies who embraced me as a mug in a (yellow) jumpsuit. I know it wasn’t easy accepting a new guy, so I appreciate the warmth. Now if only I can convince @shudder to pick us up and to let us share a night with Joe Bob Briggs?”
His appreciation for his time for the show is heartwarming and, who knows, maybe Shudder will pick up Mystery Science Theater 3000. Until then, we can just go back and enjoy the classics.
