A new trailer has confirmed the release date for the upcoming fifth and final season of the popular Netflix anime series Aggretsuko. Aggretsuko season 5 will officially premiere exclusively on Netflix on February 16, 2023.

What We Know About Aggretsuko Season 5 on Netflix

Aggretsuko season 5 will be the final season of the popular Netflix anime series, which began all the way back in April 2016. The final season will focus on the relationship between Retsuko and Haida following the events of season 4.

Haida is now living a much more reclusive life and spending most of his time online and gaming, while Retsuko learns to wrestle with the new expectations placed upon her due to her fame. The story will focus on the outcome of both their lives and their future relationship.

The official synopsis for Aggretsuko season 5 reads:

The “Aggretsuko” series depicts the daily life of officer worker Retsuko, who copes with her frustrations with her boss, co-workers and the world by belting out death metal. In this season, after Haida quits his job, he is forced out of his apartment that is owned by his parents and begins living in an internet café. There, he encounters Shikabane, someone who seems to have given up on everything. Retsuko decides to live with Haida to save him. Then, a suspicious man who says he is member of the Diet comes to recruit Retsuko…

Aggretsuko is one of the most popular anime series to debut on Netflix, with a 100% rating on Rotton Tomatoes and various positive reviews praising its characters, story, and themes. Season 4 was released back in December of 2021 and ran for 10 episodes.

It is unknown how many episodes Aggretsuko season 5 will have. Still, it will likely follow the trend of previous seasons and be somewhere between 9 and 10 episodes in total, if not more, for the final stretch of the series.

Netflix released a short video recapping the major events of the series so far from season 1 to season 4, covering everything significant that has happened to Retsuko, Haida, and other major characters to prepare for the new season. Aggretsuko season 5 will officially air on Netflix on February 16, 2023.
