Dan Lin will be the executive producer for the upcoming live remake of the beloved Nickelodeon cartoon: Avatar: The Last Airbender, originally reported by Discussing Film. Dan Lin and his production company Lin Pictures are rather experienced with films such as The Lego Movie, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Lego Ninjago Movie, The Lego Batman Movie, Death Note, It, Aladdin, and It: Chapter 2 in their repertoire. They also dipped their toes in TV with shows such as Forever, Frequency, Lethal Weapon, and Unikitty.
Netflix revealed the Avatar remake back in September 2018 and news has been scarce since. One thing is for sure – Fans are extremely skeptical after the M Night. Shymalan 2010 movie (The movie has a 5 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes while the show has a 100 percent). The makers of Netflix remake are promising not to follow the same path and their greatest proof is involvement of the show’s original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, as writers and producers.
The content of the Avatar remake is still a mystery but it promises to be culturally appropriate with a non-white washed cast and to dive deeper into the world-building and characters from the original.

The original show aired from 2005 to 2008 and featured a fantasy world based on the four different elements, water, earth, fire, and air. Our main character, Aang, was the Avatar with the capability to bend all four elements. He was tasked with restoring balance when the fire nation attacked or rather used their advanced technology to spread their influence across the world.
Avatar was well known for its great character development and balance of mature topics within a kid’s show. It launched The Legend of Korra sequel series in 2010, which follows the reincarnated Avatar in a more advanced world. The series is also very much alive with a comic series that continues both shows after they ended.
The live remake will enter production in 2020 with a likely release in 2021.
