The Emmy Awards announced that Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop is nominated for an Emmy. The series is nominated in the category of “Main Title Design.” News of this nomination was revealed when the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards staff announced the complete list of nominees for every category.
Netflix and Tomorrow Studios co-produced the series. However, Netflix handled all of the physical production. Shinichiro Watanabe, the original anime’s director, served as a consultant for the project.
Netflix first debuted the live-action Cowboy Bebop in November 2021. It was soon canceled in December of the same year. John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, Daniella Pineda, Alex Hassell, and Elana Satine all started in the series. At the same time, the original voice actors for the Japanese dub dubbed the Japanese audio for the series.
Netflix’s “Cowboy Bebop”: A Short-Lived, Mixed Run
The series itself received mixed reviews and reception. This still didn’t stop the total viewing numbers from reaching over 70 million worldwide. Despite the show’s short run, many have recognized the production quality of the main title sequence. The sequence itself is a recreation of the iconic original intro with Yoko Kannos’s original song “TANK!”.
The original story of Cowboy Bebop is set in a world where humans have moved out to space. Most people living on Earth have moved to neighbor planets, moons, and asteroids. The series revolves around Spike Spiegal, an ex-member of the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate. Now, he works as a space-bound bounty hunter that hunts down the galaxy’s most dangerous criminals with his crewmates Jet Black and Faye Valentine.
Other categories and nominees are available on the Emmy website. The 74th Emmy Awards will be held on September 12th. This is the only Emmy category for which Cowboy Bebop 2021 has been nominated.
Currently, the 1998 Cowboy Bebop anime is available to stream on Netflix, Funimation, and Hulu.
