A woman living in Nevada is speaking out on TikTok about a distressing experience she had at Sunrise Hospital, claiming that an anesthesiologist made an inappropriate and hurtful remark about her teenage daughter’s weight while preparing her for a medical procedure. The mother explained that her daughter, who is a stroke survivor and suffers from an aneurysm, had been struggling to swallow properly. Because of that, the family had gone to the hospital so the teen could undergo an upper endoscopy.

After the daughter was admitted, the anesthesiologist came to place her on an IV but struggled to get a needle in because the patient immediately began crying, wailing, and resisting out of fear. The staff attempted to comfort her multiple times by telling her to breathe deeply and even turned to the mother for help at one point. Still, the teenager could not settle down and continued crying and clenching her body.

For a brief moment, it did sound like progress was being made because the doctor encouraged her, telling her she was “doing so good.” But moments later, they were once again instructing her to relax her breathing because she was tightening up. They even asked her whether the pain really felt that severe and if the needle was truly the most painful thing she had ever experienced, and the teen simply continued to cry without any sign of calming.

The Alleged Insensitive Comment About Her Daughter’s Weight

Although the staff were eventually successful in the end, the mother claimed in her TikTok post that the doctor had been “very rude” to her daughter. She wrote in the caption that the anesthesiologist “ended up digging into her arms four times,” and also commented that the 17-year-old was “too big to even get needles in her thick skin.” She added that she was majorly upset by this because she felt her daughter was not being treated with the patience and sensitivity someone in her condition needed. However, not everyone in the comments agreed with her interpretation of what happened.

Netizens Reaction to the Nevada Mom’s Claims

Some netizens felt the mother should have contributed more to calming her daughter. One person wrote that “the mom was barley [sic] trying to calm her daughter down.” Another added, “If your child is that anxious and uncooperative you should have taken measures to better facilitate the procedure.”

Several people even sided with the hospital staff’s actions, with one viewer arguing, “She wasn’t rude sorry, she was just trying to do her job.” A second asked pointedly, “Treated her how?? This is why people quit healthcare.” Someone else commented, “Shes seventeen not 5. the lady didnt seem rude at all.”

However, a few others did sympathize with the mom and felt that the doctor’s manner should have been gentler. One commenter wrote, “This is awful. I understand they have a job to do, but the bedside manner could have been a little more caring.” Another person insisted that the teen’s emotional state deserved more attention, writing, “The patient was obviously having an anxiety attack. That should have been addressed.”
