Merge Games and Dead Mage Inc. have come together to bring about an all-new action RPG! Children of Morta is a new title with a classic feel, and a unique take on the nature of the action RPG narrative. Here’s everything you need to know.
About the Studios
Dead Mage Inc. is known for cooking up action-adventure titles, each with a unique twist. As an independent studio, they’ve certainly got their work cut out for them, and have so far done a fine job of contributing to the ever-growing list of PC and console games. In order to put Children of Morta out worldwide, Dead Mage Inc. has partnered with a pair of well-known publishers.
11bit Studios is known for titles such as Frostpunk and This War of Mine. 11bit has presumably handled the EU publishing for Children of Morta, as the studio is based in Poland and is quite prominent, especially in that part of the world. Additionally, MergeGames, responsible for such titles as Dead Cells and Sparklite, is contributing to the publishing effort.
About the Game
Now, on to the juicy details! Children of Morta seems to operate similarly to a bit-fueled Diablo. The beautifully-rendered backgrounds and precisely-animated models seamlessly blend multiple distinct schools of art. Additionally, the game has a rogue-lite approach to character development. Essentially, you’ll be leveling up a whole family of heroes.
Children of Morta‘s narrative follows the guardians of the Mountain Morta, who must stand against the spreading Corruption. It is not a simple story of saving the world, rather, it is the story of a valiant family sticking together as the world burns down around them. Because you can’t save the world if you can’t save each other!
Children of Morta is out now! So prepare to join this diverse cast of characters in their growth, their sorrow, their triumph, and their loss!
I’m an aspiring journalist and creative writer with a passion for the nerdy. If I’m not writing for work, I’m either writing creatively, gaming or attempting to make something that in some way resembles music. I currently study at Ashford University online, majoring in journalism and minoring in creative writing. I hope to one day work as a narrative writer for major game developers, a professional podcaster/interviewer, a graphic novelist and a producer of wildlife documentaries. One step at a time!
