The indie team of United Label and Fallen Flag Studio are ready to launch their pixel-art, soulslike game. This spectacular take on 16-bit gaming will be coming to all major platforms, with an animation video to present the epic journey for our hero in Eldest Souls.

A Hero Rises to the Challenge in Eldest Souls

The Old Gods and the race of Man have been at odds with each other for far too long. With unfair servitude being a disastrous burden, Man rebelled against the Gods, imprisoning them within the walls of the Citadel. But there’s more at stake here; something is greatly amiss. The Old Gods have unleashed a terrible Desolation, with all of Mankind beginning to fade away. It’s up to the courage of one warrior who will take it upon himself to slay the celestial foes.

The unique style for Eldest Souls relies on attention-grabbing 16-bit animations and designs. Its primary focus is on the boss battles, AKA the Old Gods, who will each have a particular range of challenges to stir up for the player. Every moment does count in combat, for the game is being advertised as a “Boss-Rush soulslike experience.” In other words, combat isn’t going to be very friendly. But if you succeed in defeating the Old Gods, you’ll be handsomely rewarded with upgrades to add to your combat builds.

In addition to the vicious boss fights, the Citadel is fully explorable, with NPCs to interact with and mysteries to unravel. There’s plenty to see within the sacred walls of the Citadel, making exploration a critical aspect of the Eldest Souls gameplay. This allows more lore to be discovered with questlines to add to your ongoing God-slaying agenda. You’re not always going to want to rush into epic battles, especially if you expect to repeatedly die in the process.

With the announcement of Eldest Souls‘ official release, publisher United Label and developer Fallen Flag Studio have released a new animation trailer. Entitled “At the Door of Death,” the footage shows our hero battling an ice-based Old God. After meeting his fate several times, the hero eventually gains the upper hand and slays his enemy. As a result, he collects a shard of ice from the Old God and absorbs its power. Not only does he add the ice ability to his feet for quick movement, but he also applies it to his epic sword of Obsydian. The final shot shows our hero preparing for his next round of action with an array of Old Gods standing before him.

Players can expect Eldest Souls to drop later this month, on July 29. It will be available for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and GOG. Be sure to add the game to your wishlist, and let us know which part of Eldest Souls you’re most looking forward to. Is it the 16-bit graphics, upgradable combat, or the pure strangeness surrounding the Citadel? What did you think of the animation trailer? Leave a comment down below!
