Recently, families showed gratitude for the fathers trapped at Delaney Hall ICE Detention Center in New Jersey. Their kind gesture included hanging ties at the gates for all the fathers to see. One woman went to Delaney Hall and found workers taking down the ties. She had some questions for the men.
Alexandra (@alexthealien11) recorded her conversation with some workers at Delaney Hall after Father’s Day. She tells her audience that she arrived just as workers were taking down ties that had been put out for Delaney’s father. Alex approaches one of the men and asks, “Do you like your job?” He brushes her off with a, “No comment.” Then he adds, “I got bills to pay.”
The confrontation left commenters baffled. Many attacked the worker’s response. One commenter stated, “I got bills to pay too and I’d rather starve.” Another added, “When I didn’t like my job, I found a new one.”
Alex posted a second part of her video in which she speaks with another worker. She asks him, “So, do you like your job?” He nods his head at her, but he continues to say nothing. She continues asking him questions about his job, to which he continues nodding. Alex finally asks him the breaking question, “Do you enjoy harming people?” He tries to ignore her question, beating around the bush. He tells her that “nobody” is harmed at Delaney Hall. Alex points out that many people were harmed there, some with gas and some being struck by vehicles just for protesting.
Eventually, Alex silences him by asking the worker whether he’ll “leave his job” if he finds out that those in charge of Delaney are corrupt. She gives him a speech about Delaney and how he has to live with the work he does there. She tells him, “You have to come clean with your conscience. You have to know that the people that you’re working for are hurting people.” Alex tells him that he’s “just a number” to them, just like the people trapped at Delaney. After she tells him all of this, you can see the employee wiping his eyes. It’s possible that the words she said got through to him, or maybe they didn’t.
Commenters offered Alex words of support for standing up for what she believes in. One commenter stated, “You’re on the right track. Great work!” Another commented, “He went silent because he knows he’s wrong.” Commenters continue to show their support and offer their opinions on Alex’s posts.
