A woman in New Jersey is facing backlash online after posting TikTok videos showing her exchange with another driver she claims “sideswiped” her car on the Garden State Parkway at around 1 a.m. While the other driver appears to be at fault, many viewers questioned why she repeatedly referenced his nationality throughout the videos.
In the captions of her TikTok posts, the woman repeatedly referred to the other driver as the “Haitian guy” and, in one clip, was also heard saying, “he’s from Haiti.” She claimed the man told her where he was from after he allegedly refused to provide any documents, including a license, insurance, or registration, following the collision.
The woman pressed the man to provide her with documentation, even telling him that she had Haitian friends and was “being nice” to him under the circumstances. The man then asked what she planned to do with his information, and she told him she intended to report the incident to the police.
The woman alleged that the other driver offered to pay her $200 so she would not call the police. It is unclear whether she accepted it.
Netizens React to the New Jersey Woman’s Posts
In the comments section, many viewers were less focused on the accident itself and more on how the woman brought up the man’s nationality as if it were relevant to the situation. “What does him being Haitian have to do with the fact that he hit your car?” one person asked. Another added, “Why does it matter that he is Haitian & doesn’t have papers? U want him deported because he hit ur car which im sure wasn’t even on purpose…?”
Some netizens also accused her of seeking attention. “Why are you recording yourself how does this clip help?” one netizen questioned. Someone else commented, “Just call the cops… y’all won’t get the views SMDH.”
At the same time, there were also those who were on the woman’s side, with one writing, “He shouldn’t be driving in the first place.” Another said, “Offering only $200 to not file a police report is the reason our insurance is high.” A third sympathized with her and wrote, “I’m sorry you have to go through this.”
As of the time of writing, there has been no update on whether the situation was later reported or resolved between both parties.
