A family in Ohio is going viral for celebrating their beloved dog’s life in a way that left millions of viewers laughing through tears. Weeks after losing their dog, Rinky, they documented an emotional trip to scatter his ashes, complete with heartfelt moments, family jokes, and plenty of laughter.
Sam, who posts on TikTok as shawtgal49, shared the family’s farewell in a video that quickly went viral, earning more than 804,000 views, 161,000 likes, and nearly 1,000 comments within a day.
The video begins with Sam explaining that Rinky had passed away several weeks earlier. Wanting to celebrate his life in their own way, the family visited a nearby park to scatter some of his ashes.
Remembering Rinky
Sam would then grab Rinky’s urn, which her son, Mack, soon grabbed and started to hug and kiss. Sam’s daughter, Winnie, then held Rinky’s remains, saying, “Oh Rinky, you’re so heavy, Rinky!” Sam and her husband laughed out loud.
The family’s emotions swung back and forth between laughter and sadness throughout the ceremony. Mack hugged and kissed Rinky’s urn, while Winnie joked about how heavy it was, prompting laughter from the adults. Even Sam’s husband couldn’t resist joking, warning, “I swear to God, if you spill that dog in our car…“
Each family member took turns carrying Rinky’s ashes. Sam opened Rinky’s ash bag and asked if anyone wanted to say nice things about the dog.
“I love the Rinky,” Winnie said. Mack, meanwhile, said, “Yeah.”
At the creek, each child took a turn scattering Rinky’s ashes while sharing a few simple words about the family pet. As the ashes drifted into the Ohio water, the family waved goodbye, bringing the emotional tribute to a close.
As they did, the water turned white, and even some of them remained in the rocks right next to the creek. Still, the emotional and laughter-filled moment ended with the family waving goodbye to Rinky, whose remains were slowly swept away by the waters.
Viewers Say It’s the Funniest Funeral They’ve Ever Seen
The video sparked multiple responses, but most viewers deemed the funeral vlog hilarious. Some believed that the vlog itself was a great display of how to deal with loss. One wrote, “A great take on grief actually.” Another one commented, “Thank you for the laugh, I just lost my soul dog and needed this.”
One said, “Well, that was the funniest funeral I’ve ever been to.” Another one commented, “That looks like a scene from a sitcom.”
The family’s farewell struck a chord because it reflected something many pet owners understand: saying goodbye doesn’t always have to be solemn. For thousands of viewers, Rinky’s final sendoff showed that grief and laughter can exist side by side when remembering someone you love.
