A new Modern Warfare 3 plot theory from the Inkslasher YT channel suggests that Makarov has been committing atrocities throughout the whole Modern Warfare series. It suggests he’s much more involved in the rebooted Modern Warfare storyline than you might have imagined.
How Makarov Was Involved in Modern Warfare 2019
Of course, we already know Vladimir Makarov from the old Modern Warfare series; an ultranationalist that caused the events of World War 3 in the original MW3. Now things are still the same about Makarov in the new Modern Warfare timeline, except for the fact that he has a very weird background this time around. Vladimir Makarov is not a new threat as he was in the original games, and all the Task Force 141 crew know him already.
By the end of Modern Warfare 2 story mode, a picture of Makarov is handed over to the Task Force 141 members by Kate Laswell, and they all affirm him to be Makarov. However, Captain Price tells Laswell that “He’s not new.” This means that TF 141 has fought this enemy before, which rings a bell for a Modern Warfare 3 story theory.
A theory about the new MW3‘s narrative by the Inkslasher YT channel proves that Vladimir Makarov was in fact a threat before the events of Modern Warfare 2019. More importantly, this theory canonizes all the remastered Modern Warfare 2 2009 maps to the Modern Warfare 3 story.
Modern Warfare 3 Theory Of The Old Maps Explained
If you go to the map of Estate in Modern Warfare 3 beta, you’ll find many pictures on the wall inside the safe house. This map is part of the mission “Loose Ends” from the original Modern Warfare 2 2009, where Task Force 141 breaches into one of Makarov’s safe houses. There is a lot of information and details about Makarov’s enemies in this house, and Ghost extracts them all with an ACS module. But you know what’s more interesting in Modern Warfare 3? The fact that there is relatable info in this house about the new MW timeline!
If you go to this map on the beta, you’ll realize that there are several pictures of Task Force 141 pictures and Modern Warfare 2019 events on the wall. However, there are no pictures on this wall, referring to any of the Modern Warfare 2 2022 events! This means that Estate and probably all the other old remastered maps in Modern Warfare 3 have a story that is set before Modern Warfare 2 2022.
In fact, one reason that proves this point is that all of the old maps begin with a black-and-white effect, showing that they’re set in the past. This is something that will not happen if you play Ground War, which has a map that is original to Modern Warfare 3, and its story is set in the present-day story of MW3 itself.
Makarov’s Bio In Modern Warfare 3 Beta Exposes Everything
Until now all the information so far had been weak shots that point toward Makarov somehow being the man behind the scenes for most of the Modern Warfare 2019‘s event. However, if you check the bio of Makarov in Modern Warfare 3 beta, things get pretty clear right away.
The bio for Makarov in MW3 is a long list, but the important part is that he was in the Roman Barkov’s army to occupy Urzikestan. However, Barkov lost the fight, and Makarov attacked Verdansk after. This is what we see in the Modern Warfare 3‘s reveal trailer, as Captain Price is driving a car and fighting in Verdansk. Makarov is captured in this invasion, and then he’s sent to Gulag, which is in the mission we saw in another MW3 trailer where elite PMCs are sent there to kill him.
Now whatever the case, this is just a speculative Modern Warfare 3 story theory. Take it with a pinch of salt until the game gets released and we see how things unravel officially.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is due to release on November 10, 2023.
