A new trailer for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ was released on the show’s Twitter earlier today, giving fans their first full glimpse of the famous Jedi ten years after Order 66 and the extermination of his people. Funnily enough, the trailer was dropped on May the Fourth, aka Star Wars Day.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is the latest installment in a series of extra Star Wars content released by Disney, following the trend of Rouge One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). A miniseries following Jedi Ob-Wan Kenobi has reportedly been in development since 2016, with Ewan McGregor, who played Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel films, confirmed to be returning for the series in 2019. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series will also see the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, aka Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan’s fallen former apprentice.
The first full-length Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer, starring Ewan McGregor, shows the full force of the Empire being deployed after Kenobi as he hides out on Tatooine; an unknown voice declares that she wants “every low-life and bounty hunter to squeeze him.” According to TVLine, the series is set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005), making Luke Skywalker, future Jedi hero, and Obi-Wan’s main responsibility ten years old. A child version of Luke makes a brief appearance in the trailer as Obi-Wan watches him from afar.
What We Know About Obi-Wan Kenobi After The Trailer
Along with Christensen and McGregor, the limited series will also reportedly star Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), Moses Ingram (The Queen’s Gambit), and Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse, who reprise their roles as Luke’s Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, respectively, from Star Wars episodes II and III. Deadline reports that Obi-Wan Kenobi will be directed by Deborah Chow (The Mandalorian) and executive produced by McGregor, Chow, Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, Michelle Rejwan (Star Wars: Episode IX), and Joby Harold (John Wick: Chapter 3).
The first two episodes of the six-part Obi-Wan Kenobi series are scheduled to be released on Disney+ on May 27, with the series streaming weekly until its conclusion on June 22. A second trailer is scheduled for release, though further details on it are currently unknown.
