It’s somewhat reasonable to expect occupational hazards in jobs involving physical labor, but one lucky man from New Orleans, Louisiana, likely didn’t expect a near-death situation in his line of work as a towing and road assistance mechanic. During one highway emergency call, the mechanic was nearly run over by a speeding car, and while that might sound unlucky, the man was also fortunate enough to be alive and healthy to go to work the next day:
The now-viral TikTok clip was uploaded by@ibrahim_sy1996 or just Ibrahim, and the incident supposedly took place in mid-September. Ibrahim works at the A&Z Towing in New Orleans and got called by an Audi owner for an emergency along a busy highway. As he was about to carry a set of tires to the car, an oncoming Honda sedan blindly (and illegally) passed a truck, swerving over to the side of the road and right where Ibrahim was doing his repairs.
Thankfully, Ibrahim was able to run and jump out of the way a split-second before the car sent him to the afterlife. Something that fast could’ve easily killed anyone. Surprisingly enough, it appears the Honda driver just continued speeding off without checking on Ibrahim, whom they nearly killed.
And while Ibrahim managed to record the vehicle that almost hit him, it’s not clear exactly what actions he took next, or if they tracked down the rather reckless driver. Ibrahim appears to be safe, though somewhat shaken by the near-death experience.
Some People Online Are Not Sure Who To Blame
Many of Ibrahim’s viewers on his TikTok channel have sympathized with him as his work is no joke, especially in highway emergencies. They have since questioned what exactly the Honda driver was thinking, trying to make an illegal pass on the shoulder, nonetheless. It’s also possible that the Honda was trying to avoid slamming into the truck right in front of it, but whatever the case, many people were angry at the driver:
“Why was that car even coming over anyways?”
“cones!?!? the dude literally tried to make illegal pass on the shoulder and almost killed someone, but yea let’s blame him for not having cones smh”
“I wanna know where the thought process of thst car was”
It also appears that some of the initial comments on Ibrahim’s video were arguing with him that he should’ve put up more safety measures before working on the Audi. Some people even gave examples of how tow trucks and roadside assistance work in their country, with bigger and blockier trucks parked behind the vehicle being repaired instead of in front. Regardless, Ibrahim will likely value his safety more after that kind of occupational hazard.
“Why not add cones?”
“This is getting old Tow trucks deserve to have police officers there to help control traffic. That dude almost died.”
