21 years ago, Pokémon Snap created photographers out of an entire generation, and now Nintendo is bringing back that nostalgia with New Pokémon Snap. The game will release for the Nintendo Switch, but at the moment, it’s not sure when.

Pokémon Snap

Nintendo released a trailer during its Pokémon Presents showcase on June 17th. Along with the announcement of New Pokémon Snap, the company revealed Pokémon Smile, a game where you catch Pokémon by brushing your teeth. The puzzle game Pokémon Café Mix. An update for Pokémon Go and the Isla of Armor update for Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Get ready for New Pokémon Snap, an all-new adventure for Nintendo Switch that’s inspired by the classic Nintendo 64 game.”

That’s right, Trainers—#PokemonSnapIsBack! #NewPokemonSnap is an all-new adventure inspired by the classic Nintendo 64 game.

You’ll explore deserts, jungles, and more as you photograph fan-favorite Pokémon and discover never-before-seen Pokémon expressions and behaviors.”
The trailer showed off several new island locations players will visit as they explore the land searching for new creatures to capture on camera. One of which looked eerily similar to the first island featured in the 64 games where trainers could photograph Pikachu, Lapras, Meowth, Pidgey, and many more Pokémon hiding in plain sight.

Pokémon Snap

The game will also feature tons of Pokémon not included in the first game. New creatures joining the updated cult classic are the giant whale Wailord, who is seen swimming through the ocean. A herd of Bouffalant grazes in a field, and a Scorbunny bouncing around near the adorable Pikachu. All of it looks phenomenal and seems to keep that classic Pokémon Snap feel.

The Nintendo 64 version originally had Professor Oak sending Todd Snap-on a mission to photograph new species of Pokémon on islands, underground, and even the moon. It remains to be seen if New Pokémon Snap will keep the same story or revamp it a bit.
