A new PS5 showcase is coming next week. Could a release date and preorder date be coming as well?

It certainly stands to reason, given the timing and the way Sony announced this new event.

A new blog post on Saturday morning announced the PS5 showcase for September 16. The announcement of the showcase comes just one day after Microsoft officially announced the Xbox Series S to go along with the Xbox Series X as well as their release dates and preorder dates.

It’s the preorder date that should really put PS5 fans on high alert.

Gamers will be able to start purchasing the next-gen consoles just six days after the PS5 showcase. It’s highly unlikely Sony wants consumers out there buying up their competitors’ devices before they even announce when the PlayStation 5 will be available.

Early Saturday morning is also a really interesting time to announce a showcase like this. It’s almost as though the announcement and event was hastily put together in reaction to the cat Microsoft let out of the bag.

Sony isn’t tipping its hand just yet. Their official blog post makes no mention of any preorder or sales dates.

Instead, the focus is supposed to be showing off more games. The event is said to weigh in at around 40 minutes.

That’s more than enough time to show off a couple of launch titles, while also making it clear to the public that they are indeed going to be launch titles.

We won’t know anything for sure until the day of the showcase. For now, it’s best to tamp down excitement by understanding it might really just be a way to take the focus off the Series X and Series S.

It would just a lost opportunity for Sony to not let us know when we can finally buy the PS5, so close to preorders going live for the next Xbox consoles.
