The Xbox Series S got an unexpected reveal on Labor Day thanks to YouTuber Brad Sams.

In a new video posted on Monday, Sams showed what the new next-generation console is going to look like. He also revealed the price and that, especially should make gamers fairly excited for a variety of reasons.

Sams claims the Series S is going to cost just $299 when it finally launches. While some people had been holding out hope the next generation of consoles wasn’t going to break the bank, $300 might be a lower asking price than anyone could have realistically hoped.

There is of course, the caveat that this is the “lower-end” successor to the Xbox One. The Xbox Series S is said to be a little less powerful than the Series X, which has been billed as easily the most powerful console of the coming generation.

Xbox Series S Revealed

Just what its specs are going to be isn’t yet known, as Microsoft hasn’t officially revealed it yet. The console, which had been codenamed Lockhart, had been more like something everyone knew was in the works and coming eventually, but people were also tamping down their enthusiasm with a grain of salt just in case it didn’t happen or at least wasn’t going to happen at the same time as the Series X.

With Sams not only divulging the price of the Xbox Series S but also showing what it’s going to look like, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before Microsoft makes the thing official.

Even better news is that now that we know how much this version is going to cost, we can extrapolate out what the asking price for the Series X and the PS5 is going to be near.

If the Series S is similar to the Xbox One S compared to the Xbox One X, then the Series X is likely going to come in around $100 more. If that’s the case, that console too is a bit cheaper than anyone realistically hoped it would be.

With this out there in public now, expect official word in the next few days.
