Quakecon 2021 is on the horizon, and a panel description may have leaked information concerning a new Quake game before the event.
As reported by ComicBook, the now-deleted description of the “Let’s talk Quake” panel read, “Quake is back; in this special stream, John Linneman from Digital Foundry talks to Jerk Gustafsson of Machine Games about the title’s iconic legacy and what it meant to both of them. The pair will also discuss the additional content Machine Games have contributed to this revitalized edition.” As of this writing, all mentions of a “revitalized edition” have been removed from the panel description.
The “Let’s talk Quake” panel is scheduled after the opening ceremony titled “Celebrating 25 Years of Quake with id Software and Machine Games”. The description of this panel says that the creators will “discuss the impact and legacy of the original Quake on its 25th anniversary”, which sounds like the perfect time to announce a new game in the works.
Quake was originally released in 1996. The description for the first-person shooter reads,
Rage through 32 single player levels and 6 deathmatch levels of sheer terror and fully immersive sound and lighting. Arm yourself against the cannibalistic Ogre, fiendish Vore, and indestructible Schambler.”
The series has five games in total with the last one, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, released in 2007 for PC and consoles.
Quakecon is set to start on Thursday, August 19th, and will run through Saturday, August 21st. A full schedule for the event can be seen here. Aside from the new Quake game, fans can expect to hear more about Fallout 76, Deathloop, and more.
