The Sims 4 has been a bit of a mixed bag since it released in 2014. Critics and players have touted the Create-a-Sim and build tools as the best in the series. However, a lack of engaging gameplay has plagued The Sims 4 for the past five years.
Now it seems like Maxis is trying to change that. Community manager SimGuruFrost took to Twitter to announce a new community survey. The survey “focuses on potential features/changes” for The Sims 4. While the team isn’t promising to implement every change proposed, it’s certainly a nice start.
The Future of The Sims 4
The survey looks to improve or add numerous features to The Sims 4, with relationships potentially receiving a huge overhaul. Options presented include new relationship types and short-term emotional states (e.g. being temporarily furious with a sim). Potential new additionals are also traits influencing how well Sims get along or past history affecting future relationship development.
It’s possible that Maxis is also testing the waters for a winter-themed expansion in the future. The survey includes questions pertaining to running and visiting a resort, and one particularly lengthy portion gauges interest in various winter sports. With activities such as sledding, snowboarding and ice fishing included it seems highly likely that this is something Maxis is interested in adding.
Finally, Maxis may be improving or updating pre-existing expansion packs. There’s the option to pick up to three packs that need “extra polish or additional development.” Personally, we’d love to see the Vampires game pack receive some additional development (will you please just leave our Sims to sleep in peace, Vlad?)
The survey is actually pretty vast. Even if just a few of these potential changes were implemented it could drastically improve the way The Sims 4 is played. With the new Tiny Living Stuff Pack due to release in the coming week, we’re excited to see what 2020 holds for The Sims 4.
