With the upcoming Splatfest and the Fresh Season upon us, it’s no wonder that we’re getting some new content right before the big weekend. Speaking of all things big, we got a new drop right around the Splatfest corner that involves our favorite idol, Big Man. Except not explicitly. The new Splatfest song, Liquid Sunshine, is a Squid Sister track that’ll play during Turf War Splatfest battles, starting with the ones rolling into zone this weekend. However, the song itself has a little twist, being co-collaborated by someone called Ian BGM. Who could that be?
Is Big Man in the new Splatfest song?
While it’s pretty obvious that Big Man isn’t officially named to be in the song under that title, there are a few supporting facts that show he’s involved. First is the fact that Big Man, first and foremost, is a sound tech guy. During interview questions set up with every member of Deep Cut, Big Man displayed his role in the group as the mixer. He’s the guy who organizes the vocals, edits everything to be nice and pretty, and ships it out. Rarely does he contribute any vocals himself, although this has happened once or twice in Splatoon 3.

With the release of Liquid Sunshine, Splatoon fans are excited to see the big guy in a new role. Another way that we’ve managed to confirm the fact that Ian BGM is Big Man lies within the Japanese version of the music video. In that version, each idol has lyrics highlighted in their respective color. During Ian’s lyrics, we get the color grey, while during Callie and Marie’s lyrics, we get pink and green. What other idol out there is grey besides Big Man?
This new development is just another way of showing the incredible worldbuilding present in the series. It’s more than likely that Ian BGM, that acronym included, is just Big Man’s official record name. That, or the name, is the one he uses outside of his presence on Deep Cut. Whatever the case, I don’t mind the change. As long as I get to see more Big Man content in the future. New content always rolls out, so I wouldn’t be surprised if my wish came true.
