Dotemu, the team behind Streets of Rage 4, recently shared a new video from the game’s development process and the challenges they’ve faced with so far.
Streets of Rage is one of the old famous franchises in the industry that was nothing but a dead series over the last two decades until 2018, when the French developer, Dotemu, officially revealed that a new mainline sequel to the series is being developed to hit current-gen platforms in 2020, nearly 26 years after Streets of Rage 3, the latest entry of the series.
Set in the same genre, Streets of Rage 4 is supposed to be a beat’em up with a 2D camera and up to 4-player co-op gameplay. Aside from being a sequel to the series, Streets of Rage 4 is also a re-imagination of the franchise, which makes it a more complicated project for Dotemu. Regarding the series’ big fan-base all over the world, the upcoming Streets of Rage 4 has to revive the retro feel of the old days. Meanwhile, the game should look attractive enough to make new players engage with the game as well.
Focusing on Art design, this behind-the-scene video explains the difficulties that Dotemu has gone through to craft the new look of the characters, new environment, and new level design. Like a tour to the studio, the video provides you a detailed look at the game’s current art style and compares it to the old entries of Streets of Rage.
Launching sometime this year, Streets of Rage 4 will be available for PS4,
