Paramount has just graced us with the first look at the new Terminator sequel. The image was released via Paramount Pictures official twitter page, showing off some of the new cast. The image shows Natalia Reyes, Mackenzie Davis, and Linda Hamilton in front of a war torn backdrop.
Linda Hamilton will reprise her role as Sarah Conner from the original movies. Arnold Schwarzenegger will also be making a return to the series, playing the same model Terminator from the original films. Gabriela Luna will also play a key role in the film as a new and updated model of the killing machine.
The new sequel will be directed by Tim Miller of Deadpool fame and produced by James Cameron and David Ellison. Miller seems like an interesting choice as you’d assume he is more well versed in directing a silly, campy comedy than action thrillers. He does have experience with directing serious films as he had a hand in Thor: The Dark World and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, so hopefully that will lend itself over to the serious tone of this universe.
The untitled sequel will mark the first time since Terminator 2 that James Cameron has been involved with the franchise. Cameron is known for starting the series with the stellar Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day but since leaving the project, the series has been in freefall. The most recent example being Terminator: Genisys which was met with critical and commercial failure. Hopefully under the guidance of both Miller and Cameron we can see the series get back on track.
Cameron told Collider:
That was just your classic ‘technology bad, smart computers bad’ kind of thing. Nowadays though — it’s got to be a much more nuanced perspective. So it’s ‘Smart computers bad… BUT…’ That’s the new motif.
The untitled Terminator film will hit theaters on November 22nd, 2019.
