Call of Duty: Warzone isn’t at its best these days and the one hope that many players have for returning to this free-to-play battle royale game is the return of Verdansk. However, there’s another BR map for Warzone that was rumored to be originally planned for this game with Black Ops 6‘s release named Avalon. We can already see the early design of the new map by going off the boundaries in BO6 Multiplayer, but new leaks are suggesting that it may be canned for Warzone in favor of Zombies.
We’re at a point where the developers know exactly what we want from a Call of Duty game and sometimes they just ignore it with their next game. Black Ops 6 is probably the best example of this with Treyarch giving fans what they wanted like the deep progression in the Multiplayer, a Campaign that we’d never forget, and the round-based Zombies mode that is so much fun to play.
More players, more fun, and if we don’t consider the servers and cheaters’ problems, Black Ops 6 is one of the best Call of Duty games in a long time, for sure. Now, what kills the mood is that despite all the success and the positive feedback of this game, especially when it comes to its Zombies mode, it’s rumored that Treyarch is planning another Outbreak-style mode in Call of Duty 2025.
According to multiple insiders and leakers like TheGhostOfHope and COD Warfare on X, the new Warzone map Avalon is seemingly canned for this game. Rumors suggest that Avalon is being considered for another Outbreak mode like we had in Black Ops Cold War, details of which are currently unknown and up in the air. My only question if all this comes true is: WHY?
Isn’t Round-Based Zombies Good Enough?

Ever since the release of Call of Duty: World at War, the classic round-based Zombies experience has been welcomed by fans, even in the CoD games that weren’t developed by Treyarch at all. This is a winning formula that was kept in for so many years, but for some reason, the Cold War came along and introduced a new game mode called Outbreak.
Outbreak is an open-world Zombies mode where players traverse into different big maps that are not rich in details due to their size. This is where quality gets incapacitated by quantity. Now, we need to give the developers a chance with this one, right? The first try is just an experiment and things might go wrong in that. But, this is where Vanguard and MWZ come into play.
Both Vanguard and MW3 had their Zombies co-developed by Treyarch, and they tested the idea of creating a Zombies hub or an open-world experience with these games. Did it work? No. Did fans love it? No. Does it make sense to give Outbreak and MWZ another shot? By what we’ve seen so far, absolutely not. But guess what? It’s probably happening.
I’m not trying to be super negative here about a game mode that’s just a rumor in the air right now, but if Outbreak is replacing the round-based Zombies mode in the next Black Ops game, I just know it’s not going to stick. A big part of the reason why BO6 Zombies is fun this year is because of its original crew and round-based elements. Take that away, and we’re playing Zombies in a canned Warzone map this year, and it just sounds frustrating.
