Working as a DoorDash or Uber Eats driver is no easy task. There are many deliveries to make in a short amount of time, battling the weather and dealing with demanding customers. But that doesn’t mean drivers are the easiest people to deal with. For example, this DoorDash driver in New York, who, halfway through a delivery, started complaining to the customer about the low pay and tip for making the delivery. Really, the driver’s pay shouldn’t really depend on the customer, but on the app.
Redditor Downto184 shared a strange encounter they had with a driver on r/doordash. According to OP, they placed an order with Chipotle and left a tip of approximately $4 in advance, which was equivalent to a 23% tip. However, that DoorDash driver from New York started to complain in the chat, saying, “quite the drive for not much pay.” The job of a driver is not easy, but OP says that they used to work with DoorDash, so they can better understand the situation. However, OP explains that with DoorDash, you can see in advance how much the app will pay for the delivery and that you can refuse it. Even so, OP decided to be more empathetic and increased the tip by $3.
“Well, I think the reason some drivers do this disgusting tip begging is exactly because of OP & people like him. Look, it worked, he increased the tip by almost double,” commented mildly annoyed PrestigiousWatch3194.
The worst part is that even though the driver delivered the food, after the tip increase, OP no longer felt safe with the order. According to OP, they were concerned that the driver had tampered with the food. Although this may seem exaggerated, there are people who do all sorts of things with deliveries, and some of these can be harmful. Even so, OP already had a complicated feeling that would be difficult to shake.
“As a DoorDash driver, I don’t get why drivers do this. Most people are just going to rate the driver low and not increase the tip, and then they gonna make even less” said Silly-Beginning-1807.
There are undoubtedly many inconsistencies in food delivery apps, which are very challenging to resolve. This leads many people, including office workers, drivers, and customers, to try to take advantage of the situation so they don’t have to do their part or put in any effort.
