Mayor Zohram Mamdani is no stranger to the spotlight, especially with his policies for New York focusing on improving the quality of life for the humbler locals. However, it appears his work is far from finished, at least in one particular pothole, because a TikTok user who complained about the pothole then saw it get fixed by ‘Mamdani’ within 24 hours is now back with an update. The pothole is back with a vengeance, and the New York man might have celebrated too early.
TikTok user and New Yorker swiperdm is the local in question. Earlier in July, he went viral for a post where he complained to Mayor Mamdani via TikTok. Apparently, there were a couple of potholes near his neighborhood. When he came home that day, he was surprised that the potholes were seemingly fixed. “We love you Mamdani, the [expletive],” exclaimed the New Yorker, expressing his joy at what he assumed was quick government response.
Sadly, the praise was cut short because a few weeks later, on August 5, the TikTok user posted again, highlighting how the hole not only came back but now looks bigger and dirtier because of all the garbage thrown in. In the caption, the TikTok user wrote, “I can’t make ts up bro,” and asked, “Why is it like this again? Mamdani, the job is not done!” zooming in on the renewed pothole.
At the time of writing, it appears the people responsible for fixing the roads and the potholes haven’t addressed the issue yet. It’s also not clear whether it really was the city government responsible for laying down the asphalt to attempt to fix the pothole or citizens. With that said, people kept tagging Mayor Mamdani in the comments.
People online praised Mamdani regardless
So far, neither Mamdani himself nor his team has confirmed that they were the ones who made the initial “fix” to the pothole (which then came back). I imagine they have more pressing matters to address and might delegate smaller issues such as potholes to other departments. Still, some people online have praised Mamdani supposedly for the quick fix while also criticizing the previous New York administration.
“What was Eric Adam’s doing besides just flat out [expletive] off and stealing?!,” questions a Reddit user, comparing Mamdani’s current administration to the previous New York mayor. Some even compared Mamdani to a superhero, writing, “That’s crazy work. Real life Spider Man.” Initially, and after the quick fix, certain TikTok commenters also advocated for a higher office for the New York Mayor, saying, “mamdani needs presidency, we genuinely need him.”
Of course, when the update to the pothole was posted, the tune changed a bit for Mamdani, and some people online now worry that the pothole is a bigger problem than it initially appeared. “That looks like a sinkhole waiting to happen. I would stay as far away as possible from that,” suggests one commenter, while another claims, “Lmaoo they [expletive] speed ran that [expletive].” In any case, the TikTok user gives Mamdani 24 hours to fix the pothole once more.
